Pinkie Cleugh Ceremony

PINKIE CLEUGH 1547, near Musselburgh and Wallyford, East Lothian

SBT director Arran Johnston and trustee Sharon Beck attended the annual Pinkie memorial service this afternoon, hosted by the Old Musselburgh Club and the Pinkie Cleugh Battlefield Group. It was great to see so many people there to remember this huge battle and its participants. As usual, ten names were read out from the list of those known to have perished.

This was probably the best attended Pinkie ceremony in recent years, and fittingly a new temporary flagpole flew the Saltire on the battlefield for the weeks before and after the anniversary day. Along with the new interpretation trail, this should all mean that this oft-forgotten battle is back on the road to recognition.

We're working towards a major re-enactment event at Pinkie in 2017.
